CPR Card Information

Process for obtaining CPR certification for current Bryan students

First time taking CPR certification course:

You will be required to take the live BLS Healthcare Provider course the first time you take BLS.

  • Go to https://www.bryanhealth.com/medical-providers/professional-education/, and then click View upcoming Continuing Education & Life-Saving Classes
  • Search for BLS Healthcare Provider – AHA by entering this title in the white search bar at the top of the page
  • Click on the course and scroll down to select a session
  • To register –click on Add to Cart
  • Click Proceed to Checkout and follow the instructions to create an account
  • Once you have created an account click on the shopping cart at the top of the page
  • Enter coupon code BCHSAHA and click proceed to checkout. There will be no charge for BCHS students taking BLS for the first time.
  • Once registered you will receive a registration confirmation to the email you provided

Renewing your CPR for Bryan students:

Renewal courses must be completed online, you will not be allowed to take the live BLS Healthcare Provider Renewal or BLS Healthcare Provider courses to renew your CPR. You must renew your CPR before the last Monday of the month listed on your card as the Expiration Date in order to remain current.

  • Go to http://www.onlineaha.org
  • Use the drop down options under COURSES to select BLS –Basic Life Support
  • Click ADD TO CARD on the HeartCode BLS course option
  • Pay for and complete the online course (this may take up to two hours to complete)
    • Print out the certificate of completion
    • Schedule an appointment to complete the BLS Skills Check
      • Call Bryan Medical Center’s Education Department at 402-481-5638
      • There will be no charge BLS Skills Checks for BCHS students
      • Bring the certificate of completion with you to your BLS Skills Check appointment

Renewing your CPR card for Bryan employees:

Any Bryan employees who are also students at the College of Health Sciences

  • Contact Education Services to add the BLS Certification to your transcript if you are not currently required to maintain CPR for your job
  • Review the instructions to complete your CPR and sign up for a Skills Check in Catalyst

The college only accepts two types of cards. The only card accepted from the American Heart Association is the BLS - Healthcare Provider card. The only card accepted by the American Red Cross is the CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Providers.

Once you have the skills check competed, bring a copy of your CPR card to Ashley Ertl in Records and Registration office 224. To avoid being on the list of students who cannot be on clinical sites, be sure to have your initial CPR card turned in before the start of your third semester or have your renewed card turned in before the last Monday of the month your card expires.
