Federal Loans and Grants
Making College Affordable with Federal Aid
Paying for college can feel overwhelming, but federal loans and grants can help make it possible. These programs provide financial support from the U.S. government to help cover your education costs. Some funds are loans you'll repay later, while others – like grants – are free money you never have to pay back.
How to Apply
- Complete the FAFSA and include Bryan College of Health Sciences.
- Each year, accept your aid (loans and grants) through the BCHS FAFSA Awarding & Verification Portal (FAV). Complete after you've registered for the upcoming Fall semester and have your current curriculum plan.
You'll need:
- A completed FAFSA.
- Your grade level based on credits earned:
- 1st year, never attended
- 1st year, transfer (under 24 credits)
- 2nd year, sophomore (25-51 credits)
- 3rd year, junior (52-89 credits)
- 4th year, senior (90+ credits)
- Number of credit hours for Fall, Spring and Summer (enter "0" if unsure about Summer)
- If selected for verification, extra documents will be requested through the portal.
What Happens After You Submit FAV?
- You'll see a confirmation message: "Thank you for using our electronic system. Your file is in queue to be reviewed."
- In 1-2 weeks, you'll get an email update.
- No need to accept aid separately. Completing the portal is enough.
- If selected for verification, you'll get an email from FA@bryanhealthcollege.edu

- FAFSA: You will not be able to advance if the FAFSA is not received by Bryan College of Health Sciences.
- Grade Level: Your grade level, based on the number of credits earned in your program. Undergraduates should calculate how many credits they will have earned in their program in August:
- 1st Year, Never Attended College Before
- 1st Year, Previously Attended College = Transfer/Returning student who has earned under 24 credits for your BCHS program
- 2nd year, Sophomore = 25-51 credits earned
- 3rd year, Junior = 52-89 credits earned
- 4th year, Senior = 90 or more credits earned
- Credit Hours: Change the preset credit hours from ‘12’ to the number of credit hours you plan to take for Fall, Spring and Summer. This will help us determine the right aid to award you. If you are unsure if you will take classes in the Summer, please put a ‘0’ in this field.
What happens after I submit the verification?
- Once you complete and submit, you will receive this message: “Thank you for using our electronic system. Your file is in queue to be reviewed, you will be notified if your file is missing information or if corrected information is needed.”
- Expect an auto-generated email within 1-2 weeks verifying the status of your financial aid.
- There is no need to “accept” your financial aid package — completing the information in the portal is acceptance.
- If you are selected for verification, the Financial Aid office will contact you. Please check your email. Our verification specialist is Brigid Vail, Assistant Director of Financial Aid.
