COVID-19

As we focus everyone's health, safety and learning, we are providing this page as a one-stop resource for you as we navigate the COVID-19 situation.

Important COVID-19 Notice

Everyone recognizes that the Bryan College of Health Sciences will be operating, for the foreseeable future, under unusual circumstances due the COVID-19 pandemic. We are committed to reducing your risk of catching the COVID-19 virus by establishing policies and procedures that follow local, state and federal requirements and guidelines, as well as those established by Bryan Medical Center to not only address COVID-19, but all communicable diseases. Despite our best efforts, the College cannot guarantee that its staff and students will not contract COVID-19 and each employee and student assumes such risk when participating in any employment, educational or social activity. All employees and students are required to follow established hygiene and other established practices intended to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The College will periodically keep employees and students updated as to the current requirements. Should you show symptoms of COVID-19 or other communicable disease, please contact employee/student health immediately. You should also self-quarantine until you can be evaluated by a healthcare professional. We also encourage employees and students to report any questions and concerns they have related to the College’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Your adherence to established procedures is key to fostering a safe place to work and learn.

RE: Two more steps toward normalcy – TESTING PAUSE & MASK REMOVAL

With COVID-19 case counts and transmission rates falling below precaution threshold levels, effective Monday, March 7, we will take two more steps toward normalcy in our work and college environments:

Bryan College of Health Sciences: East & West Campus

  • Must wear a mask when entering and leaving  the College area.
  • Classrooms, ALL Labs (including skills labs), and Student Common Spaces are considered mask-free.
  • When traveling outside the College area, masks are required.
  • All patients and visitors entering BCHS and Bryan Health facilities will continue to wear a face mask at all times. (Visitors also include scanning volunteers in the sonography skills lab).

Everyone will continue to wear a face mask when entering or exiting Bryan Health facilities, while in all clinical areas where direct patient care is performed, in all public spaces, such as corridors, cafeterias and restrooms, and in situations where room size limits appropriate physical distancing for the number of attendees.

PAUSING WEEKLY TESTING for unvaccinated students who have a declination on file

We are pausing the weekly testing requirement for asymptomatic unvaccinated students. This requirement could be reinstated in the future if community transmission rates go back up and reach 10 cases per 100,000.

MASK WEARING outside of College Area Spaces/ in non-public spaces

Mask wearing will be optional for those who are up-to-date on their vaccination in non-clinical care, non-public spaces (i.e. offices and meeting rooms) and where appropriate physical distancing is possible for the number of staff present. Up-to-date on vaccination is defined by the CDC as having received all recommended COVID-19 vaccine doses, including booster once the qualifying date has passed.

Those who are not up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccination will continue to wear a face mask at all times while at Bryan Health.

I want a booster ASAP – how do I get one? Bryan Medical Center will continue to offer Wednesday vaccine clinics through March. For even faster access, go to your local pharmacy (CVS, Walgreens, etc.)  and remember to send student health a record of your booster.

How do I know if I’m in a non-clinical care, non-public space? Ask your faculty, Health Nurses, Dean of Students, or evaluate if your situation could be patient/visitor facing. If you’re in a place where you could provide care or service to a guest, you are in a public space.

We are excited to bring updates to our campus community! Please let me know if I can answer any questions.

Plan for Return to Spring Classes

Out of an abundance of care and our continued desire to remain face to face with our classes,  the College will begin temperature screenings for all students, faculty, and staff beginning Monday, January 10th.

After receiving a temperature screen, you will be given a sticker. Your sticker and your student ID are required as your ticket to class and/or clinical.

A volunteer or a standing temperature screening stations will be placed in pivotal college entrances.

Bryan West: Temperature screening will occur outside of College Entrance by SL-4

Bryan East: Temperature screening will occur inside the Front Entrance of College Rotunda Doors.

To help ensure everyone is using the temperature screening process, access to prox doors have been closed for students.

You may still use these doors to exit the buildings. It is not permitted to open prox doors to allow entry for anyone.

With the increase of COVID-19 cases, it important that you are monitoring your symptoms, and if you experiencing even one symptom, please ensure you are following up with student health. For questions regarding COVID-19 symptoms or other COVID items, please refer to the COVID-19 student guide.

Thank you in advance for your flexibility and understanding as we implement progressive measures to protect you. Please plan ahead for arriving promptly to your classes.
